Michael R. Jackson

Michael R. Jackson holds a BFA in playwriting from the NYU Tisch School of the Arts' Dramatic Writing Program and an MFA in Musical Theatre Writing from the Tisch School's Musical Theatre Writing Program where he was the recipient of the Yip Harburg Scholarship for lyricists.

Michael's has seen his work performed at the Developing Artists' Theatre Company, the New Professional Theatre, Dixon Place, the Henry Street Settlement and the Flea Theatre. While at NYU he wrote book and lyrics for the one-act The Tragical Comedy or Comical Tragedy of Mr. Punch and Judy with Jared Dembowski as well as book and lyrics for a full length, Only Children with composer Rachel Peters, which was recently performed as part of the Frederick Loewe Alumni Reading Series at NYU and the Lincoln Center Director's Lab. He wrote lyrics for a new musical, Menu, produced independently by David Kolatch, book by Michael Russell and music by Jong Yoon Choi. His lyric "Mr. Labrew" was showcased in the Dramatist Magazine by composer-lyricist William Finn; his lyric "I'm Mary Jackson" (music by Stephen Barnett) was sung by Q. Smith at the ArtsCents Concert Series, presented by ASTEP; and his lyric, "Crazy Cousin Sam" (music by Scott Murphy) was sung by Lisa Howard of the 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee in her cabaret at Ars Nova. He recently performed his own music and lyrics in a one-man show entitled, "Fast Food Town," also at Ars Nova. He was named one of "50 to Watch" in the July 2007 edition the Dramatist Magazine.

Upcoming: NYU Undergraduate Drama 2008 main stage production of Only Children under the direction of Emma Griffin.
